On October 10, 2020 Kira announced that the rules governing usage of slurs were changed. Previously, the usage of "racial, homophobic, transphobic or antisemitic slurs" were only disallowed if used in a derogatory manner. The change made the usage of such slurs, regardless of context, disallowed.<ref>[[:File:DisasterDen24.png|DisasterDen24.png]]</ref>  

The cited reason for the change was to address users who would use the "in a derogatory manner" provision to justify the usage of the slurs "all the time". Vesper would later clarify that slurs were never intended to be used as frequently as they were. The offenders leaned on the leniency of staff members who would not take action since the usage was not derogatory, resulting in the slurs becoming more casual than staff desired.<ref>[[:File:DisasterDen42.png|DisasterDen42.png]]</ref>

Kira would comment in the general channel later that morning that freedom of speech as a concept was important to them, but that they remained firm in their decision, not wishing a minority to cause prospective members to "shy away".<ref>[[:File:DisasterDen41.png|DisasterDen41.png]]</ref>

On October 14, Kira angrily stated in the general channel that members FreedomEagle and Slime were the "root of [the] problem", citing that they were "ruining the rule for everyone else".<ref>[[:File:DisasterDen43.png|DisasterDen43.png]]</ref> Bovix, an administrator, commented that they disagreed.<ref>[[:File:DisasterDen44.png|DisasterDen44.png]]</ref> Kira threatened to demote Bovix from staff if they did not "stop fucking talking",<ref>[[:File:DisasterDen45.png|DisasterDen45.png]]</ref> to which Bovix took offense, stating that Kira's reaction to their statement was unproportionate and disrespectful.<ref>[[:File:DisasterDen46.png|DisasterDen46.png]]</ref><ref>[[:File:DisasterDen47.png|DisasterDen47.png]]</ref> Bovix would later express understanding, commenting that Kira was angry, and that they had faith Kira would not action the threat.<ref>[[:File:DisasterDen48.png|DisasterDen48.png]]</ref> Kira did not comment on the incident further.
