The MediaWiki software and the various extensions installed at Online Communipedia come with tools to assist with the project's upkeep. Bundlings of these tools are called permissions or user groups, and they are assigned to editors so that they may expand their assistance to the project. An exhaustive list of all tools user groups have access too is located at Special:UserGroupRights.

Obtaining permissions[edit | edit source]

Any editor may request access to tools by going to the talk page of any bureaucrat. Bureaucrats maintain discretion over the assignment and revocation of tools, though they generally will want to see a demonstrated need for them and a base-line level of competence in editing the project.

Administrators, alongside bureaucrats, are able to grant and revoke Extended confirmed.

Tools of the trade[edit | edit source]

Administrator[edit | edit source]

An administrator is a user with the technical ability to block users and IP addresses, delete pages, perform revision deletion, and protect pages from editing. They act as the custodians and functional moderators for Online Communipedia.

Autoconfirmed[edit | edit source]

The permission of autoconfirmed is a tool that is automatically given to accounts that are 3 days old and have a total of 10 edits. They are given the technical ability to make use of 2-factor authentication, send emails to other editors, edit pages protected against editing by brand new accounts and IP addresses, and move pages.

Extended confirmed[edit | edit source]

The permission of extended confirmed is a tool that is automatically given to accounts that are 30 days old and have a total of 100 edits. They are given the technical ability to edit pages protected against disruption by autoconfirmed accounts and are procedurally able to verify the authenticity of media submitted as sources.

Bot[edit | edit source]

The permission of bot is a tool that grants the associated account various permissions useful to bots, such as bypassing CAPTCHA and being able to move pages without redirecting.

Bureaucrat[edit | edit source]

A bureaucrat is a user with the technical ability to alter the user groups and accounts of editors. They can assign and revoke all user groups, edit (but not see) account passwords, edit (and see) account email addresses, edit the real name on accounts, merge accounts together, rename accounts, and manage the 2-factor authentication status on accounts.

Check user[edit | edit source]

A check user has the technical ability to view all IP addresses associated with an account, or vice versa, so as to investigate potential abuse.

Interface administrator[edit | edit source]

An interface administrator has the technical ability to edit all CSS, JSON, and JavaScript files on the project (both site-wide and user-specific), edit the interface of the project, edit pages in the Module: namespace, and import pages from other MediaWiki instances.

Suppressor[edit | edit source]

A suppressor has the technical ability to perform suppression. This is generally reserved for personally identifiable information and other extreme cases.

Template editor[edit | edit source]

A template editor has the technical ability to edit pages that are template editor protected, a protection level assigned to templates that if broken can cause significant disruption to the project and it's readers.
