The MediaWiki software and the various extensions installed at Online Communipedia come with various tools to assist with the project's upkeep. Bundlings of these tools are called permissions or user groups, and they are assigned to editors so that they may assist the project in new ways.

Obtaining permissions

Any editor may request access to any tool by going to the talk page of any bureaucrat. Bureaucrats maintain discretion over the assignment and revocation of tools, though they generally will want to see a demonstrated need for them and a base-line level of competence in editing the project.

Tools of the trade

Administrator

An administrator is a user with the technical ability to block, delete (pages, files, and their history), and protect. They act as the custodians of the project, enforcing policies and using other elevated editing-access to contribute in different ways.

Autoconfirmed

The permission of autoconfirmed is a tool that is automatically given to accounts that are 3 days old and have a total of 10 edits. They are given the technical ability to upload files, make use of 2-factor authentication, send emails to other editors, create pages, and move pages.

Bureaucrat

A bureaucrat is a user with the technical ability to alter the user groups and accounts of editors. They can assign all user groups (including the bureaucrat group), edit account passwords, see and edit account email addresses, edit the real name of accounts, merge accounts together, and rename accounts. Bureaucrats are prohibited from giving editors check user or suppressor without the site operator's consent due to the sensitive information that such tools grant access to.

Check user

A check user has the technical ability to view all IP addresses associated with a particular account, or vice versa, so as to investigate the potential abuse of multiple accounts or IP addresses.

Interface administrator

An interface administrator has the technical ability to edit all CSS, JSON, and JavaScript files on the project (both site-wide and user-specific), edit the interface of the project, and edit pages in the Module: namespace.

Suppressor

A suppressor has the technical ability to perform an elevated form of page history deletion which makes it so the selected content cannot be viewed by even Online Communipedia administrators. This is generally reserved for personally identifiable information or other extreme cases.

Template editor

A template editor has the technical ability to edit pages that are template editor protected, a protection level assigned to templates that if broken can cause significant disruption to the project and it's readers.
