This is a template to indicate the license type, URL and author or authors of material that has been copied into Wikipedia as permitted under a compatible Creative Commons license, and is usually placed in the references section of an article.

This template should not be used for content copied into Wikipedia that is dually-licensed, e.g., under a compatible Creative Commons license and the GFDL. See Template:Dual instead.

This template should not be used when you cite a source but still write all the article content in your own words. Do not use this template inside <ref>...</ref> tags unless you are quoting or copying content from the cited source directly (word-for-word) into the article.

NOTE: CC BY-SA 1.0 IS NOT A COMPATIBLE LICENSE. SEE WP:COMPLIC.

Usage

  • {{Creative Commons text attribution notice|cc=|url=|authors=|vrt=|from this source=}}

Parameters

  • |cc=
– The license type, indicated by one of the below short names (lowercase, no decimals or spaces)
  • |url=
– The URL of the source page from which the licensed material was copied
  • |author=
– the author or authors of the source. This is needed to meet the "appropriate credit" provision of many Creative Commons licenses, which provide (for examples in all of those covered by this template) that: "If supplied, you must provide the name of the creator and attribution parties". This field is not always required, as some sources simply do not supply the authors, and for others (for example, Wikipedia content), it is specified that a link to the URL of a page, which has an accessible page history, is sufficient credit to its author or authors.
  • |vrt=yes
– Indicates WP:VRT permission (also use {{Ticket confirmation}}
on the talk page)
  • |from this source=yes
- Indicates that the incorporated CC text comes from the source preceding this template
